Equine therapy and bodywork

So your horse moves happily again

Following the principles of the Whole Horse method, I look at the whole horse — not just the body, but also the environment they live in, feeding, tack, mental wellbeing, the rider's influence, and the demands of their particular discipline. Together we look for what's holding your horse back from feeling good — and how to help for the long term.

What brings you here

01

Chronic and persistent issues

Stiffness, unwanted behaviour, ongoing discomfort, or specific recurring problems that don't resolve on their own. We look at the whole horse and their environment to find where the issue comes from.

Initial assessment →

02

Prevention

Even a horse that looks fine carries compensation patterns. Left unaddressed, these raise the risk of injury and lasting problems. Regular care creates the conditions for your horse to stay healthy and content long-term.

Long-term care plan →

03

Performance and young horses

Recovery and improved performance for sport horses, plus careful preparation of young horses for their discipline — so the body can handle what we ask of it without unnecessary wear.

Massage and bodywork →

04

Return after injury

Veterinary treatment is over, but the body still holds compensatory patterns. A safe way back to work needs a plan — in collaboration with your vet.

Method

I don't just look at the muscle — I look at the whole horse

My approach is based on the Whole Horse method: I see the horse as a whole. Muscle tension is often just a consequence — the real cause can lie in the horse's environment, feeding, tack, mental wellbeing, how they're ridden, or the demands of their discipline. So I ask questions and look for connections, not just the symptom.

In the treatment itself I work gently — with the horse, not on the horse. I combine the Masterson Method with more than thirteen other techniques (from myofascial release to mobilisations and stretching) into an approach tailored to what your horse's body needs right now. The horse shows me, through blinking, licking, yawning and deeper breathing, exactly where the tension is held.

What horse owners say

Thank you so much — after the treatment, my horse can finally pick up his hooves normally so I can clean them.

Inger a horse that wouldn't pick up its feet

We went out on a hack today, and for the first time in weeks the mare didn’t buck even once — she was lovely and settled.

Daniela a mare that was bucking under saddle

My horse has been diagnosed with arthritis in his neck and has a lot of muscle tension, and is generally quite stiff. But after the treatment it was completely obvious how much better he felt. Even the day after, he moved so much more easily. My horse is going through a real transformation with Johana’s treatments and is clearly feeling much better.

Tone a horse diagnosed with arthritis in the neck

Johana sees my two older horses regularly. I really appreciate how well she explains things, and that she gives me exercises I can then do with the horses myself.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does treatment replace veterinary care?

No — and it’s important to say that clearly. Therapy and bodywork are complementary care that support your horse’s wellbeing, release tension and support mobility. I don’t diagnose or treat illness. If your horse has an acute health problem, they need a vet first; for rehabilitation, I work from the veterinary diagnosis and I’m always happy to work alongside your vet.

How often does it make sense to treat a horse?

It depends on the horse and their workload. For sport horses, an interval of 4–8 weeks tends to work well; for leisure horses and older horses, once every 2–3 months is usually enough. After the initial assessment, I’ll suggest an interval tailored to your horse — and we’ll fine-tune it together based on how they respond. There’s no point visiting more often than your horse actually needs.

My horse looks fine. Is treatment worth it anyway?

Horses are masters at masking discomfort — it’s their natural instinct. Tension and small compensations often only become visible once they’ve grown into a real problem: reluctance, stiffness, a change in behaviour. Regular care works both as prevention and as a check-up: it either confirms that everything’s fine, or catches tension before it becomes an issue.

What's included in the price of a treatment?

Alongside the treatment itself, you’ll always get: a clear summary of what I found and what we released; recommended exercises and techniques for home care; and the option of a phone consultation between visits. For long-term collaborations, I keep records of your horse’s progress and update the care plan as we go. The only thing added to the price is travel.

Where do you travel to, and how much does travel cost?

In Sweden, I work in south Stockholm and around Täby, Åkersberga and Vallentuna. In the Czech Republic, by arrangement. Travel is charged based on distance — I’ll always give you the price in advance, no surprises. If several horses at your stable book the same time slot, you can split the travel cost between you.

How do horses react to treatment? Won't they be afraid?

I work very gently — below the threshold of the horse’s defensive response. Most horses visibly relax during treatment: they lick, yawn, lower their head, and some get sleepy. The horse is never forced into anything; they show me themselves where the tension is held and when they’re ready to let it go. That’s exactly why this approach works even with sensitive or mistrustful horses.
